A prominent non-profit developer is planning to bring new affordable housing to a long-vacant lot in Pomona.

The East End Village, which is being developed by the Cesar Chavez Foundation, will rise form an approximately 2.26-acre property at 1321 E. Holt Avenue.  The proposed project calls for the construction of a new five-story edifice featuring 125 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for low-income families and homeless veterans, as well as a new East Valley Community Health Center clinic.

Onyx Architects is designing the contemporary low-rise development, which would be accompanied by a publicly-accessible pocket park at the center of the project site.

According to a representative of the Cesar Chavez Foundation construction of the East End Village is expected to begin in 2022, with completion anticipated by 2024.

The roughly $67-million complex is being developed in partnership with the TriCity Mental Health Authority.

The Cesar Chavez Foundation, which evolved from a credit union and death benefit organization founded by the iconic labor and civil rights activist, has built more than 4,000 units of affordable and permanent supportive housing.  Its ongoing projects include new apartments buildings planned or under construction in Westlake and El Monte.
